You and your dog are struggling and stressed out.

You have been told that obedience is the key to a “good” dog.

Based on this, you may have worked with multiple trainers and possibly have even attended multiple classes because you really want your dog to “behave” so they can co-exist with other dogs and people anywhere and everywhere. But this doesn’t seem to be working.

The problem is that the focus on obedience at all costs has missed a hugely important piece of information.

That missing piece is the WHY of your dog’s behavior. We must figure out the WHY before we ever look at how to modify any behavior. There are underlying factors that affect every single dog.

This is where Family Dog Mediation comes in.

Family Dog Mediation brings you and your dog together by teaching you to understand each other. Understanding brings real change.

For real change to happen, we must understand WHY the behavior at issue is happening before we can ever begin to look at HOW to make changes.

The history of dog training has been focused on HOW to change the dog’s behavior without consideration of who the dog is based on several underlying factors.

Many dogs are struggling in our modern world. Many dogs find themselves in a world that they don’t understand. The roles for which they have been historically bred are no longer available and they struggle to make sense of everything, including their humans. There has been a marked increase in barking and lunging on leash, fear, anxiety, separation anxiety, and much more.

Dog owners are struggling, too. We have been given so much conflicting information about what dogs need, how to train them, and what our role is in our dogs’ lives, that it’s hard to make heads or tails out of it.

This is where Family Dog Mediation comes in. Family Dog Mediators are trained professionals who have taken steps beyond what we typically think of as dog training. It’s not about “fixing” our dogs. It’s about figuring out who they are and how that affects their behavior based on their L.E.G.S: Learning history, Environment, Genetics, and Self; and then finding solutions for your individual situation. (Click on either the Family Dog Mediation Logo or the L.E.G.S. logo below to get more details.)

I want to get you and your dog to another level in your relationship where you understand each other and where everyone is getting their needs met.

My Philosophy:

Your dog deserves to be treated with kindness - and so do you.

I will treat you the way I want to be treated. I encourage full transparency and I will communicate openly with you and without judgment. I will listen respectfully and provide feedback. And, I will be honest if your situation warrants a referral to a veterinary behaviorist or specialist.

My Methods:

Modern, kind, education-based

To really help our dogs, we must understand the “why” behind their behavior. It’s not about obedience. Each dog comes with their own unique set of circumstances and there is no cookie cutter approach or recipe that can be used to change behavior. I’m here to help you gain a greater understanding of your dog and their behavior, and then we will use this information to find the best solution for your situation.
